Crucial Conversations® Pre-Run Mini Sessions
Thank you for your interest and volunteering to help me prepare to deliver Crucial Conversations®!
I’ve identified several dates for mini-sessions that focus on the different sections of the full Crucial Conversations® Workshop (see below). Your participation is a Win:Win opportunity for you to be introduced to Crucial Conversations® and for me by helping me to perfect my delivery!
Because these are pre-run mini-sessions, the content is very compressed and the resources will not be available to keep. The official workshops are scheduled for 2 full days, each a week apart: May 30th and June 6th. We hope that you will join us for the complete workshop!
What is Crucial Conversations®?
Crucial Conversations® is an internationally recognized, two-day course that teaches skills to create alignment and agreement between parties by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional, and risky topics.
The training is geared toward campus staff and faculty leaders and corporate professionals. It teaches skills to help move “crucial” discussions forward in a respectful way that honours all points of view and produces positive results.
Participants will learn how to:
- Create a safe space to explore differing opinions
- Speak persuasively, not abrasively
- Recognize and diffuse emotional road blocks that inhibit respectful dialogue
- Foster teamwork and better decision making
- Move from discussion toward action and results
Crucial Conversations® is a program designed by VitalSmarts®, a widely recognized innovator in the field of training and leadership development. The program combines three decades of original research with 50 years of the best social science to help leaders and organizations influence how human behavior impacts workplace culture and performance.

|April||9th||8:30am||9:30am||Get Unstuck||We’re all stuck or not achieving what we want in a variety of areas, ranging from awkward or failing relationships to dysfunctional teams to cost, quality or safety problems at work.||Learn how to identify the Crucial Conversations that are the key to Organizational team and interpersonal success.|
|April||11th||3pm||4pm||Start With Heart||The first thing that deteriorates during a crucial conversation is not our behavior (that comes second) but our motive.||Learn how to stay focused on what you rally want and get better results.|
|April||23rd||8:30am||9:30am||Master My Stories||When it matters the most and our emotions kick in, we often do our worst – and we feel like we’re doing the right thing.||Learn how to create emotions that make you want to return to healthy dialogue.|
|April||25th||8:30am||9:30am||STATE My Path||During crucial conversations, we say things in exactly the wrong way.||Learn five skills for saying risky things in a way that minimizes defensiveness.|
|Learn to Look||When a conversation turns crucial, we either miss or misinterpret the early warning signs.||The sooner we notice that we or others are not in dialogue, the quicker we can get back to dialogue and lower the cost.|
|Make It Safe I||People go to silence and violence because they feel unsafe sharing their meaning.||When you see silence or violence, step out of the conversation and restore safety.|
|May||7th||3pm||4pm||Make It Safe II||When we find ourselves at cross-purposes, our automatic reaction is to either give in or dig in. These are exactly the wrong responses.||Learn how to step out of the content, create a Mutual Purpose, resolve conflict, and return to healthy dialogue.|
|May||9th||3pm||4pm||Exploring Other’s Paths||Others are feeling unsafe and have moved to either silence or violence – and we’re not sure why.||Learn to help others leave silence and violence behind and join you in dialogue by retracing their Path to Action.|
|May||14th||3pm||4pm||Move to Action||When we finish off a crucial conversation, we often create a whole new set of problems by not ending well.||Learn how to move from talking to achieving the results you’re after.|
