Mental Health Education and Training

Training and Education Opportunities:

UBC recognizes the key role that mental health plays in the workplace. Mental health impacts everyone at UBC, not just those with a mental illness. We encourage you to learn more about the various events and activities that take place throughout the year and invite you to join us as champions of mental health and wellbeing at UBC.

The Workplace Health & Wellbeing team

Provides consulting services that are grounded in evidence-informed approaches and aligned with advancing UBC’s strategic commitments. Workplace Health and Wellbeing Programs and Services

Employee and Family Assistance Program: 

Call the Telus Health Care Access Centre st 1-866-424-0770 to chat with a counsellor at any time or use the chat function on the app. Learn more about EFAP resources and services here.

Extended Health Plan:

Access registered/licensed clinical psychologists and social workers, or clinical counsellors through the psychological services provision under your extended benefits plan. Learn more here.

Work Reintegration and Accommodation Program:  

WRAP is a collaborative and supportive approach to addressing illness, injury, and disability in the workplace. The program takes into account the needs of the individual, the work environment, operational needs and legislative requirements for staff and faculty members. 

Center for Workplace Accommodation:

The CWA is a central hub for resources, tools, and programs that help remove barriers for faculty and staff with disabilities or ongoing medical conditions.  

Ergonomics:

Health, Safety and Environment provides ergonomics services to promote your wellbeing.

Teladoc:

A confidential service that provides clarity, confidence and understanding if you or your eligible dependents have any concerns or doubts about a diagnosis, need help deciding on a treatment option or question the need for surgery.

Substance Use Services & Addictions Resources:

For people who struggle with substance use and addictions, it can sometimes be difficult to seek out help and support. If you are looking for help, or you want to support someone you know in finding assistance, the following resources are available.

A pilot program that plays a key strategic role at UBC, supporting the Human Resources –Workplace Health and Wellbeing Services team in their effort to embed wellbeing and wellbeing practices within UBC workplaces.

Not Myself Today

An evidence-informed mental health initiative created by the Canadian Mental Health Association that helps employers like UBC support mental health and wellbeing at work.

Healthy Workplace Initiative Program (HWIP)

An annual fund available to UBC departments and units to support grassroots activities that promote wellbeing in the workplace.

Thrive

A time when we come together as a UBC community to learn about, talk about, and explore ways to support our mental health.

Move UBC

A university-wide initiative each February aiming to increase physical activity and reduce the time students, faculty, staff, and the UBC.

Faculty and Staff Sports Day

A favorite culture event at UBC! Whether you want to participate as an office, department, group of colleagues or an individual, there is an activity for everyone.

Pick Your Peak Stair Climb Challenge

An annual, fun, and inclusive way to encourage faculty and staff to move throughout the day. All abilities are welcome to participate.
