FREE 1-on-1 Professional Coaching Services for Staff & Faculty

In the world of organizational development, coaching has become the most effective tool to accelerate results in learning and professional development and building engaged workplaces and lives.

At UBC, we offer FREE 1-on-1 professional coaching services for staff and faculty, quarterly coaching workshops through our MOST Program and a Practicum Program to integrate coaching skills and learning.
Our aim is to build a Coaching Culture at UBC.

Supporting Organizational Development

Heads Up

The purpose of this group is to drive a shared understanding and action on key programs, campus initiatives and leadership practices. This is done through consultation and discussion of various campus events, such as bi-monthly meetings and using a secured online environment, to provide ongoing opportunities for information dissemination and group discussion.

Member of the Heads Up forum include; Associate Deans, Unit Heads, Directors, and Managers who are supported by the Organizational Development & Learning staff

Academic Leadership Series

The Academic Leadership Series is offered by the UBC Okanagan Campus Human Resource department, in collaboration with the Office of the Provost, and is an opportunity for Academic Heads of Unit to come together and:

  • Gain information and  support to facilitate their success in carrying out their administrative responsibilities
  • Learn more about the Art of Leadership in an academic environment
  • Facilitate networking and sharing of expertise  

The program begins  with an intensive two days at the start of Fall term, and continues throughout the year with short, just-in-time delivery on topical subjects, culminating with a Leadership Summit in the spring.

Essential Administrative Skills Series

Changes to EAS program effective January 1, 2016

These courses, workshops and eLearning options are focused on human resource system training, software skill development, building knowledge of process and more. MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Adobe Acrobat, communication, business writing and much more will be offered to provide office training for staff who primarily deal with administration and those who are looking to improve their office skills or develop their career path. Upon completion of one of the Essential Administrative Skills designated courses/workshops, the participant will receive an Essential Administrative Skills Certificate of Completion.

Faculty & Staff Onboarding

Staff Orientation workshops at UBC’s Okanagan campus will be held twice a year, January/February and August. To register for the next workshop, January 17, 2018 see staff orientation registration. If you have questions, please email Lisa Frost, ODL Specialist, at lisa.frost@ubc.ca.

The next Faculty University-Wide Orientation at UBC’s Okanagan campus will be held in August 2018. Details will be posted in Spring 2018. To register for the next workshop see facility orientation registration.

The Welcome Back Faculty & Staff BBQ & Info Fair and Town Hall, an annual event held late August or early September, is designed to give incoming faculty and new staff the opportunity to meet representatives of various service units, and find out more about what resources are available to them. For more info on this year’s event see the events calendar..

New faculty and staff are also encouraged to visit the Welcome Center, where you can sign up for benefits, find out more about the Okanagan and UBC, and links to other organizational resources.
